Throughout its long and illustrious history Heavy music has arguably never been stronger or more exciting than it is now in 2020. The talent pool has never been deeper and the continued and rising popularity of festivals such as Bloodstock, Download and Hell Fest only further solidify the music’s importance. The next band coming up on the conveyor belt of emerging talent are Melbourne’s own LUNE. Their new EP Ghost is due for release on 12th June and while it shows flashes of real quality it ultimately fails to fully follow through on the bands undoubted potential. The standout moments are the title track and the records other single ‘Mirror Image’ but the other three tracks just fade into each other for the most part. The vocals are ferocious and the band do sound huge, but there isn’t anything on the EP which really stops you in your tracks. There is no doubt that the songs will translate incredibly well to the live arena, however that is a completely different set of circumstances to appraising the EP as one piece of work. The Aussie five piece are clearly not without talent, but Ghost does fall short of expectations. As alluded to above, competition has never been more fierce, and it’s going to take more than the band’s current somewhat formulaic approach to stand out.
